Family Time

Nate, Hannah, and I had 24 hours of solid "family time" this weekend. With the busy-ness of football and basketball behind us this was our first free weekend so we decided to take advantage of it and head out of town. We ended up in Station Square, Pittsburgh! It was so much fun and we had the best weather we could have asked for.
Hannah woke up at about 5:40am on Saturday, but as early as it was it helped us get on the road by 9am so we could start our day together early. We packed up and cleaned a little, then headed to Pittsburgh. Hannah ended up falling asleep about an hour before we got to Station Square, which was good because it was her only nap of the day! We did okay following the directions we had, until we were in the lane for Exit 6C, not 6A, and found ourselves in the middle of the Strip District! Thankfully our road atlas had a Pittsburgh map in it that had the little streets where we were on it. We successfully navigated ourselves to Station Square without too much of a delay! We checked into the Sheraton Hotel that was right in Station Square. That was definitely a good move, because we were able to go there and relax in between our activities.
Once we unloaded we headed out into Station Square. I thought there would be more places to shop in, but unless you were looking for Steeler apparrel and gear, there wasn't too much else. There we are a lot of restaurants to choose from for lunch and Hannah just loved to see all the new sights. We ate at Joe's Crab Shack for lunch...Hannah had shrimp and crab for the first time and really liked it! She was able to see so many trains up close, even though they didn't impress her too much. After we ate lunch we decided to go on the Monongahela Incline to see the city and what we could discover at the top. Hannah was a little nervous at first, but liked to see the bridges, cars, and boats as we went up the incline. Hannah was getting tired so we weren't able to do too much at the top of the incline...we probably should have gone up there after she had had a longer nap!

When we got back to the hotel we tried to rest, but in a strange place that was not happening! We went down to the pool and had so much fun! At first Hannah wouldn't go in at all, but after a while she was "swimming" with Nate and I, kicking her legs, moving her arms, and blowing bubbles in the water! She loved it so much and would have stayed longer, except that her lips were turning blue and she was shivering! We went back to our room and relaxed a bit before going to Ross Park Mall to try and get dinner. The mall was fun, but definitely something we should have done another time. We were all worn out from all the walking earlier that doing more of it in the mall wasn't too fun. Plus all the restaurants had 75-90 minute waits...ugh! So after walking around the mall without much success in finding anything we wanted we headed back to Station Square for dinner.
By the time we arrived back it was after 6pm. We decided to eat at the SteelHouse, what we thought was a restaurant, but really was just a bar that served food! They didn't even have milk for Hannah to drink! We were so tired and hungry, and we didn't have to wait at all to be seated, that we just stayed. The food was pretty good, but we wouldn't go back. We did have a laugh over the fact that they served us fries with EVERYTHING we ordered! We ordered a pretzel and onion rings for appetizers-fries piled under both! Then both of our sandwiches AND Hannah's chicken tenders came with fries! It was funny. :)

After that we just went back to our room and crashed for the night. This morning we got up early and headed home by 9. On our way we stopped at the Grove City outlets where we bought Hannah her first pair of sneakers! She looks so cute in them. She actually wouldn't take them off once we tried them on her and knew we were going to buy them! :) We made it home just after 12:30 and now Hannah is napping and the reality of a Sunday afternoon after a busy weekend is here. Housework, laundry, grocery shopping, and cooking must all be done, but the memories we made this weekend will last a long time!
